GETTING OUT

After serving an eight-year prison sentence for second-degree murder, Arlene enters a dingy apartment in Louisville, Kentucky, to begin her first twenty-four hours on parole. In the course of her first day home, she is visited by four people: Bennie, her sentimental former jailer; her mother; Carl, a pimp and former partner in numerous crimes; and Ruby, an ex-convict.  Getting Out is a play about the difficulty of shedding the past and beginning a new life.
